Thousands of Americans are disenfranchised from voting each election due to unfair and often illegal intimidation tactics. To help fight these attempts to suppress American citizens from voting, and to let Americans know there are services available to them, Participant Media has created an urban radio PSA campaign that targets the communities who are historically affected the most by voting discrimination practices.
This PSA Campaign publicizes the Voter Protection Hotline led by The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. The Lawyers Committee’s most effective method of disseminating information about voter protection is thru radio that encourages people to call their Voter Protection Hotline. In cooperation with Artists for a New South Africa and the NAACP, Participant Media has worked with numerous celebrities over the past several weeks to record these PSAs and ensure that they receive the airtime they deserve. These PSAs include messages from Tyler Perry, Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne, Tichina Arnold and Blair Underwood.
The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (LCCRUL) is leading the charge for Election Protection- a coalition of numerous organizations working to protect voting rights for everyone eligible to vote this coming election season. LCCRUL is a nonpartisan and non political nonprofit organization, formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy to involve the private legal community in providing legal services to address racial discrimination and to secure equal justice under the law. Since then, they have been at the forefront of the fight for equal access and justice. Their primary focus is to represent the interests of African Americans, Latinos and other racial and ethnic minorities. LCCRUL implements its mission and objectives by providing pro bono resources of the bar for litigation, public policy advocacy, and other forms of service by lawyers to the cause of civil rights.
