Jimmy Carter Man From Plains

About the Issue

In the years proceeding his presidency, former President Jimmy Carter has distinguished himself as a tireless defender of human rights and a champion of humanitarian causes. In 2002 he was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize for his decades long efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.

This site focuses on peace and conflict resolution highlighting President Carter's success in negotiating the Camp David Accords, as well as the achievements of other Nobel Laureates who tackled conflicts in their own countries and resolved them peacefully.

Noted journalist Jesse Kornbluth (contributors to Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, and The New York Times) examines instances in which three remarkable men, through commitment, determination and an unfailing belief in the concept of peace, were able to negotiate successfuly.
